Sharpshooter and wanted Mohammad Kaif surrenders in Siwan

PATNA: Mohammad Kaif alias Banty, an alleged sharpshooter and accused in the murder case of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, surrendered before a Siwan court on Wednesday.
ADG (HQ) Sunil Kumar said, “Kaif surrendered before the court of CJM in Siwan around 3.45pm. He has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days however Siwan police will pray for his police remand for further interrogation in different cases.”
Siwan police on September 16 attached the property of Kaif.

A team of police reached his house at Dakshin Tola in Siwan and executed the property attachment order of the court. Kaif was absconding in the case of demanding extortion from a private engineering college. A case of extortion was registered against Kaif alias Bunty and three others with town police station in August. Three others accused in the case surrendered in the CJM court on Friday, but Kaif remained on the run.
The Siwan Police launched a manhunt for Kaif after his photograph with former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin when he was leaving the Bhagalpur jai, surfaced in the media and stirred controversy. Till then he was an absconder for the police. Later he went on giving several interviews to media and meanwhile police prayed for his property attachment. Another alleged sharpshooter and reportedly closed to Shahabuddin Mohammad Javed was also present in the same photograph however he is also reported absconding for the police.
According to police record, Kaif was sent to jail in 2007 in a case of eve-teasing in Siwan and have been accused in several murder and extortion cases. “The fiver shooters who were arrested on May 24 by Bihar police revealed Kaif’s name and told police that Kaif coordinated with them regarding the murder plot of Ranjan,” said ADG (HQ).
The journalist Ranjan was shot dead on May 13 at a fruit market in Siwan and the investigation of the case has recently taken up by the Central bureau of Investigation (CBI).
